Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a small procedure that rejuvenates
the skin, reduces the appearance of scares, removes fine
lines, and eliminates the effects of acne. The procedure
is simple. The top layer of dead skin is removed promoting
the production of new cells in the deepest layer of the
skin.
Microdermabrasion is not actually plastic surgery. Treatments
are preformed at a doctor's office, salon, or spa.
The skin is sandblasted with aluminum oxide crystals through
a wand that suctions itself to the skin. The technician
controls the suction level. Treatments are relatively painless
and do not require anesthesia.
Treatments take 20 - 30 minutes for the face to be treated.
The face, neck, and upper chest can take an hour. Courses
of microdermabrasion consist of 4 - 8 treatments at 1 –
3 week intervals. The cost ranges from $50 - $300 depending
on the procedure and clinic.
Microdermabrasion, also called the "lunch-time"
peel, allows patients to return immediately to their daily
routine. There may be a slight irritation, or wind-burnt
sensation during treatment that may last for several hours.
The skin turns pink for an average of one to three days.
Botox
Botox treatments are also temporary, lasting up to six
weeks. Even if the patient suffers side effects, they will
dissipate within six months, max. However, botox is extremely
safe but there are some side effects including bruising,
flu symptoms, headaches, repiratory infection, muscle weakness,
and nausea.
On the up side, Botox has been cited as a possible treatment
for migrains.
It involves injecting Botox into the face to reduce the
appearance of lines, or into the neck to reduce the appearance
of cords.
Botox has only been around for a decade, so there is a
lack of clinical data on the product, but at the moment,
there does not appear to be any long term side-effects of
Botox injections. However, there is no fear of contracting
botulism from the injections.
A single treatment can cost as much as $500.
